Overview
Cellular metabolism fuels all biological processes, supports tissue and organ homeostasis, and ensures functional adaptations to nutrient availability, damage/injury, infection, etc. On the other hand, metabolic dysfunction underlies the basis of inflammation, aging, and many diseases including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and immune system disorders. The long-term goal of the Ruan laboratory is to elucidate immunometabolic mechanisms of tissue remodeling, inflammation, and disease susceptibility.
